Filipiniana dress project : searching how to do puff sleeve/butterfly sleeve

Sunday, August 26, 2012
Recently a friend of mine wanted me to sew her a Filipiniana dress. It is a Filipino traditional dress for woman with a puff/butterfly like stiff sleeves - long, sometimes colorful and elegant. Usually worn on a special Filipino occasion like weddings, formal engagement parties, dinner and mostly worn by politicians and celebrities.

One famous Filipina lady who always wear such dresses is the former first lady Imelda Marcos.

In any style of her dresses she always have such puffy sleeves.

My dear friend Rizza stumbled upon this site who is also making such dresses and forwarded to me the link. Rhonda's creative blog site opened my eyes on how to manipulate the sleeves. She explained it well in there the technique of such sleeve. I am thankful and hopefully be trying to use the technique.  I learned from the link as well where I could buy our very own pineapple fabric online. A fabric I wanted to use for this dress or in any of my future sewing projects even if it is not a Filipiniana dress. I'd like to introduce our famous pineapple fabrics here in Poland. I like this material.

Anyways, To keep myself and you all posted, this would be my first blog entry for my series of blogs for this  Filipiniana dress project.
