Fasolka po Bretońsku / Bean soup

Wednesday, May 04, 2016

It's raining. Smoke that comes out of the chimneys envelopes the air. It's typical Polish May weather, cold rain and warm sunshine. Though it's not that cold anymore unlike the winter, yet I feel a little uneasy with this weather today. More likely drives with my mood. A little lonely, absurd and occupied. I have a busy schedules until the 8th of May. Finding time for myself is scarce and I have to keep myself by cooking. I am behind with my training too, and I only have few weeks left before running my first marathon . Nonetheless, I feel fine. I'm fine. Just busy.

While cleaning and reaarranging my pantry yesterday, I found an open pack of white beans. Decided at once to cook Bean soup for lunch today. It is popularly named here as Fasolk po bretońsku or British Bean soup. I don't know why it is named after a British or mybe because it is inspired by the British love of baked beans. The soup is a perfect combination with the weather today, too.

Bean soup is a favourite of my daughter. She likes beans and much more as made into soup. Beans is easy to prepare and eat, too. My version of bean soup is so simple. Here it is....

you need :

400 grams of white beans
homemade kiełbasa - 3-4 pieces
laurel leaves
English seeds
paprika powder
2 cloves garlic
medium size white onion
salt and pepper
TBSP of sugar
3 tbsps of tomato paste
a teaspoon of Marjoram herbs
oil for sauté

* Put the beans in a bowl. Leave it overnight and boil it the next day with laurel leaves, English pepper seeds, salt. About two hours until beans becomes soft. Once beans is soft. Sauté garlic, onion and homemade kiełbasa over heated pan with oil. When it turns a bit Brown, add it to the boiled beans. Put some Marjoram herbs, tomato paste. Boil about 5 mins more and add sugar. put some salt and pepper to taste.

Serce hot or warm with rye bread or boiled potatoes.

Smacznego!enjoy!

Xx
