Fasolka po Bretońsku / Bean soup

Wednesday, May 04, 2016

It's raining. Smoke that comes out of the chimneys envelopes the air. It's typical Polish May weather, cold rain and warm sunshine. Though it's not that cold anymore unlike the winter, yet I feel a little uneasy with this weather today. More likely drives with my mood. A little lonely, absurd and occupied. I have a busy schedules until the 8th of May. Finding time for myself is scarce and I have to keep myself by cooking. I am behind with my training too, and I only have few weeks left before running my first marathon . Nonetheless, I feel fine. I'm fine. Just busy.

While cleaning and reaarranging my pantry yesterday, I found an open pack of white beans. Decided at once to cook Bean soup for lunch today. It is popularly named here as Fasolk po bretońsku or British Bean soup. I don't know why it is named after a British or mybe because it is inspired by the British love of baked beans. The soup is a perfect combination with the weather today, too.

Bean soup is a favourite of my daughter. She likes beans and much more as made into soup. Beans is easy to prepare and eat, too. My version of bean soup is so simple. Here it is....

you need :

400 grams of white beans
homemade kiełbasa - 3-4 pieces
laurel leaves
English seeds
paprika powder
2 cloves garlic
medium size white onion
salt and pepper
TBSP of sugar
3 tbsps of tomato paste
a teaspoon of Marjoram herbs
oil for sauté

* Put the beans in a bowl. Leave it overnight and boil it the next day with laurel leaves, English pepper seeds, salt. About two hours until beans becomes soft. Once beans is soft. Sauté garlic, onion and homemade kiełbasa over heated pan with oil. When it turns a bit Brown, add it to the boiled beans. Put some Marjoram herbs, tomato paste. Boil about 5 mins more and add sugar. put some salt and pepper to taste.

Serce hot or warm with rye bread or boiled potatoes.

Smacznego!enjoy!

My Homemade Orangette

Thursday, May 23, 2013
Oranges are in season. I love orange so much. There's something about that orange colors and the orange fruit actually.  For me, wearing such color makes me more happy and cheerful. It ignites my moods and gives me more energy.

When it comes to the fruit, I love to freshly squeeze them and made them into fresh orange juice for my brunch or for an afternoon drink. Really wonderful to match with waffles or pancakes too. What a celebrity this fruit is.

Weeks back, a friend inspired me to make some Orangette. It's a candied orange peels.  She's been making some through a popular Youtube tutorial HERE and she made some video responses HERE . While shopping for some fresh fruits, I saw pretty fresh big oranges and thought of why not try that orangette -orange peel thing.

 * see that's how giddy am I sometimes....common! I love oranges. My love affair of this fruit started when I one boring day I felt so sad. So I cut them into wedges and sip there pulp and juices, threw the skins... until I get the hanged of it sipping. Imagine me sipping them as fast as I can, as If I am trying to bet in the Guinness world record.LOL! And voila! I don't feel bored anymore. That's how weird I am sometimes. But don't blame the hormones this time..... ask my mum!

(INSERT EVIL LAUGHTER / ANNOYING LOOK HERE!)

So, here's my version of that ORANGETTE.

I made some chocolate coated ones too, But stroke of fate, they're the best seller. So, before I could take pictures of them, they're gone in an instant. My kids and friends love the chocolate coated ones. The taste of chocolates and orange when mixed together is just so perfect. An orgasm right on time. Right after, I put them in a recycled jars. (note: I have a lot of jars at home, I like to recycle things and make them useful again).

I will make more next time in different flavours. Maybe, I'll try cinnamon, mint, white chocolates, vanilla or whatever flavours comes to mind.

Want one?

I'll spare you some........Bye!

Pork Steamed Rice

Friday, April 12, 2013

When I longed for home..... back in the tropics,  I just usually indulged mysel into home comfort foods. To alleviate my mood.

For awhile now, I mastered the art of cooking dimsum/chinese foods. For back home, I love to chinese foods and frequent in dimsum restaurants and one of my favourite is steamed rice paired with siomai.  So, I cooked my own version of pork steamed rice the other day. Though, in that picture I use turkey fillet for I am trying to cut down my pork intake. Still tasted great. Recipe will follow soon.......
