Why Small Daily Changes Lead to Big Transformations

Monday, January 20, 2025

Change is one of the most profound constants in life. Yet, the essence of change—real, sustainable transformation—is often misunderstood. The quote, “You’ll never change your life until you decide to change what you do daily,” perfectly encapsulates the heart of this misunderstanding. While many dream of a better future, few realize that the key lies not in grand resolutions or occasional bursts of effort, but in the small, consistent actions embedded in our daily routines.

The Power of Habits

Our lives are essentially the sum of our habits. These automatic, repetitive actions dictate how we spend our time, how we respond to challenges, and ultimately, who we become. Consider a person striving to become healthier. A singular decision to eat a salad or exercise for a day will have little impact. But a daily commitment to balanced meals and regular physical activity can lead to significant health improvements over time. This principle applies to every area of life: personal growth, career advancement, relationships, and mental well-being.

Reading Atomic Habits by James Clear validated this perspective for me. The book emphasized the importance of starting with small steps as the foundation for transforming habits and routines. It put me into a mindset of appreciating the power of incremental progress. Small actions, when done consistently, compound over time and lead to remarkable results. This insight has shifted my approach to habit-building, reinforcing that even minor adjustments can pave the way for significant life changes.

Why Daily Choices Matter

The idea that monumental change stems from daily actions might seem counterintuitive at first. After all, aren't major life events or big decisions what truly reshape our lives? While these moments are important, they are often the result of accumulated daily efforts. For instance, writing a book is the result of consistent writing sessions. Building a thriving business stems from persistent effort, problem-solving, and relationship-building over months or years.

Daily actions are powerful because they are cumulative. Each small, positive step builds upon the last, creating momentum. Conversely, neglecting these small actions can lead to stagnation or regression. A life’s trajectory is shaped far more by what we consistently do than by what we occasionally do.

Making the Decision to Change

Change begins with a decision. It’s not enough to wish for a better life; one must commit to doing what is necessary to achieve it. This commitment often involves evaluating current habits and identifying those that no longer serve the desired future. It requires asking difficult questions: “What am I doing daily that aligns with my goals?” and “What habits are holding me back?”

The decision to change is also an acknowledgment that growth requires discomfort. Adopting new habits often feels awkward or even painful at first. However, just as a muscle strengthens through resistance, so too does our character and capacity for change through persistence.

Practical Steps to Transform Daily Habits

  1. Start Small: Big changes can feel overwhelming. Instead of attempting a complete overhaul, focus on one small habit at a time. For example, if you want to become more organized, start by setting aside 10 minutes each evening to plan the next day.

  2. Be Consistent: Consistency is more important than intensity. It’s better to exercise for 15 minutes every day than to work out for two hours once a week.

  3. Track Progress: Monitoring your habits can reinforce your commitment and help you identify patterns. Whether through a journal, an app, or a simple checklist, tracking creates accountability.

  4. Seek Support: Share your goals with a trusted friend, family member, or mentor who can encourage and hold you accountable.

  5. Celebrate Milestones: Recognize and celebrate small victories along the way. This reinforces positive behavior and keeps you motivated.

The Ripple Effect of Daily Changes

When you change what you do daily, you don’t just alter your habits—you reshape your identity. Each small win reinforces the belief that you are capable of growth and improvement. Over time, these changes ripple outward, influencing your relationships, opportunities, and overall quality of life.

In conclusion, the path to a transformed life begins with the decision to change what you do daily. While it’s tempting to focus on distant goals or dramatic shifts, true transformation lies in the mundane yet powerful realm of daily habits. By committing to small, consistent actions, you not only change your behaviors but also redefine who you are and what you’re capable of achieving. As the saying goes, “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” The choice to embrace this truth is yours to make.

3 books about Philippines written by Polish authors

Saturday, March 03, 2018

Filipiny - Philippines, the country I was born and culture I grow up with.

A lot have been written in other countries in Asia, but none much about my country. I'm so glad to have found some more travellers - Polish in particular, found an inspiration to write about my country. Not only about their travels or how to travel there, but how it is to live in the Philippines.

Twarze Tajfunu - written Małgorzata Szumska is a book and story about the author's unique travel to Philippines where she helped people devastated by the strong typhoon Yolanda, where she helped restore back their homes and found love, optimism in the endd at this great island paradise.
If you don't know much about my country, it is a Typhoon prone area. Typhoon is a common calamity and usually challenges us Filipino so well to remain strong despite of.
How I wish I could give you a more wonderful narrative of this book, but due to my lack of knowledge of  the Polish language, I could only give you what I only know basing from the excerpt and what I understand.

Filipiny written by Anna . This book is purely a traveller's guide to Philippines, its islands and big cities. I've known Ania for quite awhile now from her blog wazji.pl . I love her photos of my country and she lived there for quite awhile before moving outside the Philippines. This book is wonderfully written and curated.

Pod Ciemną Skórą Filipin written by Omsiany is a book that my husband is currently reading. A book enrich with life learnings, where he visited some tribes and experience life by living with them.  How I wish again there is an English version of this book so that I could read it with thorough understanding. My husband find this book wonderfully written with much humor mixed into its stories.

All of these, gave me such gratefulness that my country is slowly recognized not only with how beautiful our crystal beaches are, but how our history influence our culture in general. If you're Polish, perhaps you may want to grab a copy of these books. Links are in the descriptions....

Someday, (maybe) I'm going to write my own book about my quest here in Poland. Although, I did one with one of Polish author here about being a Filpina mum here. However, there is much difference when you put into words your experience with the culture, language and people.
Who knows! The ambitious me kicks in once again. But yeah, I always love to express my thoughts and experience through writing. I think growing up as a child with a diary in hand all the time could be blame with this secret ambition, that is no longer a secret.

*wink!

Alright, thank you for dropping by once again.

Friday, July 05, 2013
After loads of coffee, sun tans and a lots of I miss you's, to keep up with myself without much thinking for I'm getting insane.  I came to reconcile with my feelings.

While waiting for that September to come, let me borrow some notes from the book A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon.

This is PLAN A.

I have to:

1. Keep myself busy.

2.Take a long walks.

3. Sleep well.

4. Shower and change in the dark.

5. Drink red wine.

6. Think of something else.

7. Talk.

For sure these will keep me from dying.
If all else fails, then I need to apply PLAN B. What would that be? I need find a perfect strategy.

but then, the picture said so....

1:52 a.m.

Friday, April 17, 2009
Woke up to breastfeed baby Jan, burped him, quickly change nappies and send him back to sleep.

:-* (wink)

That is usually now my everyday activities. They all consumed my time and energy, and yet I am enjoying it. Though there are really moments of complaining coz of the hazzle that I can't sleep real straight.

While feeding him, I had the opportunity to finish the book The Good Earth. Oh try to imagine, a child in my lap latching my breast and a book in my other hand. Waahhhh!

Supermom.

That's how I tried to manage my time and to amused myself as well.

2:32a.m. - my mobile phone rang. I had a missed call from a private caller. That I suspects somebody is trying to ring my phone in the other side of the globe (for sure from the Philippines). Waiting to ring again but it didn't. So i woke up G and told him then. I was kind of nervous. It might be some kind of emergency back home or whatever. I tried to calm myself and send myself back to sleep since Baby Jan is has its own moments at this time. At least, somebody or someone maybe thinking of me somewhere.

Prior to that, I was reading The Good Earth and finally finished it. It was a superbook! I love it! Now, looking forward to see the classical movie as well.

I googled it and found the trailer and the movie in YouTube. Wow!

The problem is...I need to find time to watch the movie of course with G. We need to send children to sleep early so we can have our US moments :-D Yayy!

Next in line, is the book I got from G last easter as gift, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, another classical book. I have to juggle my time again so I can read the book. That's it!

Exciting!

Reading, my ME time

Wednesday, April 15, 2009
There is something about reading.... It will take you to other dimensions, informed you of the latest and makes you fascinated with things you have not seen before. That's why I love to read, read and read.

Lately, I do not have much time to sit on my favorite chair and grab a book. Obviously, my being a mother demands a lot of time. I miz reading a lot! :-( Not only it relaxes me but as well rejuvenates my inner senses.

Last easter, hubby gave me another book 'One flew over the cuckoos nest by Ken Kesey' to add with my collection. I'm not done reading yet The Good Earth by Pearl Buck and now, there is another one I am excited to read. That calls for me to set my daily plan and when baby is asleep I will have an opportunity- i call it my ME time.

Hope to be reading my hearts out soon.
